Tango Mentor © is a project tailored for those who are asking questions and who would never be satisfied with just any answer; a guide to help all those lost souls in the tango world like I was when I first started.
When my tango journey begun I was hungry for knowledge about what the genuine Argentinian tango is… I mean really really hungry. I do not care if it sounds like a paradox, but I was lucky enough not to have a regular tango teacher, a kind of authority figure who would give me my answers. Instead, I had to rely on my own resourcefulness to discover the real nature of the traditional Argentine tango – and this lead me to endless chain of discoveries which is unbroken to this day. This means I still consider myself a student. In order to become a master, one must commit himself to be a student all his life. I read almost all I could about tango and I took private classes with all the people available to me, and whom I considered the best to give me the kind of answers I needed.
Traditional social tango is not a standardized dance, so there are no right answers to the most of the questions. This alone creates a great confusion, even among the experienced dancers. I do not intend to claim the ultimate knowledge, but I am sure that with my unusual path, I learned what most of the dancers never had a chance to find out: my past experience gave me the unique perspective on tango; and specially on how non-Argentinians learn and think about tango.
I helped many – I am sure I can help many more 🙂
