If a man wants to become a good tango dancer, he has to become a follower. “Of course, I’ve heard that learning how dance the follower's steps can help”, you might say. No. I'm not saying that at all. I believe that it's not necessary for you to learn how to dance the female role to become a good dancer: my point here is that you have to be able to read the woman in your embrace and to follow the information you get from her. I got inspired to write this post by a comment on my Facebook Page. My article “Four ways to lead better” was shared a lot, mostly by people I don’t know personally. Bellow one of the shares a guy named Daniel said this: “The leader monitors the speed and … [Read more...] about Why a man in tango is a follower?
Why Ladies Learn Better by Dancing More?
Going to classes and practicing at home is very useful, but there is nothing as good as dancing more. I wrote my post “Practice less, dance more” for the guys, but this is even more applicable for the ladies. In fact, I learned that dancing more and dancing with good dancers is more than 50% of the learning process for female tango dancers. Read this article to find out how dancing more will benefit you, especially if you are a female dancer. Please have in mind that I do not use leader/follower terminology on purpose, because I don’t think that female tango dancers are followers. Check my post about leader/follower confusion https://tangomentor.com/leader-follower-confusion/ “If she … [Read more...] about Why Ladies Learn Better by Dancing More?
Dance more, practice less
Practice less – there is a much easier and much joyful way to improve your dancing. This post is written primarily for the male dancers, but I am sure ladies can benefit from it as well. In order to learn more, while practicing less, you will have to dance a lot. I mean a lot! The more the better. If you have milongas in your community every day, and you have time, be there. Dance! Tango dancers are like airplane pilots – in their license it is not written how many years since they got their license, but how many hours they spend flying. Four Ways to Lead Better
You should lead better. Well, easier said than done. Many male dancers put a lot of effort in practicing and learning, but their visits to milongas turn out to be frustrating experiences again and again. It is like there is a big secret that stays out of reach for them, no matter how hard they try. Would you believe me if I say that it is not hard to lead better if you pay attention to just four things? I know, it sounds like magic cure, but trust me - it is. Let me tell you a story - a true conversation that I had with one of my students. "But, why I can’t dance well with others?", she asked me. "What do you mean? With whom can you dance well?", and she pointed out few men on the dance … [Read more...] about Four Ways to Lead Better
How to Create a Perfect Tanda
It is easy to create a perfect tanda… of course, if you know what your end goal is. Good DJs do not think in terms of individual songs - they think in tandas. Preparing perfect tandas and playing them in the right moment is all it takes for a DJ to create a great mood in their milongas. Of course, there are different approaches and different styles of playing music – but what I found that works best are the four points I am going to explain in this post. - I was wrong! I was completely wrong about him – I said with disappointment asking her if she wants us to go home early, long before the milonga finished. A few hours earlier I was enthusiastic, explaining to her how good a DJ this guy … [Read more...] about How to Create a Perfect Tanda
The most important thing is your partner
What's the most important thing in tango? If I have just few seconds to teach you about the core of the tango, the advice I am going to give you here will be it. Let me begin this with a short story that happened when I was in preparation stage of the Tango Mentor project. "I have few ideas about the name, I already checked the domains and they are available", I said to her. She was my tango student, but there was topic where she was my mentor – work. "Tell me", she said. "Well, the two that I like the best are Tango Mentor and Tango Mindset...", I continued. "Tango Mentor!", she interrupted me. "That one is short and clear", she added. "I agree, but I like Tango … [Read more...] about The most important thing is your partner
